ABOUT Todd Estep

Estep is an East Tennessee native, born and raised between Hamblen and Carter counties. He graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1993. Six days later, Mr. Estep reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Serving as an infantry squad leader, Todd was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea where he served in humanitarian efforts, alongside NATO, and as a show of force for military interests in that region. He also served in a joint military operation in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and was deployed to Camp Schwab Okinawa, Japan and Camp Growl, Queensland, Australia during his enlistment. Upon return from active-duty service in the Marine Corps, Estep worked his way through college beginning at Northeast State Community College and finishing with a Bachelor of Science from East Tennessee State University in Computer Science with a concentration in Information Technology. While at ETSU Estep was a founding member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity where he served as President. Mr. Estep worked in his field developing computer code for e-commerce websites for Fortune 1000 companies. During this time, the desire to serve others continued to beckon him back to public service. So, in September of 2010, Estep began the study of law at the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia. Estep competed on the ASL Constitutional Moot Court Team, Mock Trial Team, and served as President of Phi Delta Phi legal honors society. Upon graduating in 2013, he started Estep Law Office and later accepted a part-time position as an assistant public defender in the First Judicial District. In 2014, Estep accepted a full-time position in the 3rd Judicial District where he served as an assistant public defender. During this time, he graduated from the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia. Upon the announced retirement of his predecessor, Mr. Estep ran for District Public Defender. In May he earned the Republican Nomination and ultimately was elected to serve through the General Election in August 2022. He took office September 1, 2022. Estep lives in Greeneville, Tennessee with his wife Cari and their 3 children, where he is very active in his community. Estep has served as President for the Greeneville Morning Rotary Club, Treasurer of the Greene County Republican Party, YMCA baseball coach, Trustee of the First Church of God, and is a member of the Greene County Honor Guard providing military honors for service-member funerals.
