Serving Giles, Lawrence, Maury, and Wayne Counties
Travis Jones was born in Columbia, TN. He attended Maury County public schools and Battle Ground Academy. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and attained his law degree at the Nashville School of Law. Before graduating from Nashville School of Law, Jones served for ten years as president, general manager, and advertising spokesman for Jones Home Furnishings in Columbia. His previous and current community involvement includes serving as President of the Columbia Kiwanis Club, President of the Board of Leadership Maury, President of Graymere Country Club, and other community organizations. He is the proud father of an adult son and happily married to his wonderful wife, who also practices law.
Jones started his legal career in private practice and served as an Assistant Public Defender in this office beginning in May of 2013. He was appointed in January 2019 as District Public Defender by Governor Bill Haslam following the unexpected passing of his predecessor, the late Claudia Jack.
“While I have big shoes to fill, I hope to continue to provide the invaluable and necessary service of providing indigent defense to those persons most in need with the level of work ethic and passion Mrs. Jack exhibited daily. It is indeed one of the most important pieces of our criminal justice system. Mrs. Jack did so with a grace and presence that lit up any courtroom she entered. We shared a love of the law and those who practice it.”
The 22nd District Public Defender’s Office is comprised of nine attorneys, two investigators, four administrative assistants, and an office manager. The caseloads of the office are heavy, but the people in this office are committed, compassionate people who do great work because they love what they do.
