Greg Burlison is a native of Centerville, TN, and a graduate of Hickman County High School. Greg received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law. Upon graduating from law school in 2006, Greg began practicing law in the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office. Greg returned to the middle Tennessee area in 2008 as an Assistant Public Defender for the 21st Judicial District and has practiced extensively in Hickman, Lewis, Perry, and Williamson Counties.
Greg was appointed as District Public Defender for the 21st Judicial District by Governor Bill Lee in November 2020. He was elected District Public Defender in 2022, the same year that Williamson County became a single county judicial district. Greg is proud to lead an office full of passionate and dedicated public defense professionals providing high-quality, client-centered representation.
Greg is currently a member of the 21st Recovery Court administrative team and previously served two terms as a Hearing Committee Member for the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee (2016-2022). Greg is a graduate of the Tennessee Criminal Defense College and the National Criminal Defense College. He is a member of the Williamson County Bar Association, the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (TACDL), National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), and the National Association for Public Defense (NAPD). Greg is honored to have previously received the President’s Award, presented by the Tennessee District Public Defender’s Conference, as well as the Friend of the 21st Recovery Court award.
Greg lives in Fairview with his wife Sara, two sons, and an ever-growing number of four-legged family members. In his free time, Greg is an avid runner and golfer. He also serves as a church elder and coaches middle school basketball.
