After graduation Andrew opened a law office in Kingsport where he practiced until joining the 2nd Judicial District Public Defender’s Office in 2001. Andrew was told as a young lawyer that “you have never truly practiced law until you are all that stands between a man and the jail house”. Andrew took that to heart and dedicated his career to criminal defense. Andrew was appointed to be the District Public Defender in November of 2018 by Governor Bill Haslam. Andrew was elected in August of 2020 and was unopposed for re-election in 2022. Andrew has been married to his bride, Greta Ann (Clark) Gibbons since 2001 and they have three children. Andrew is a strong believer in service and has always been active in his community.
