Serving Van Buren and Warren Counties
John P. Partin is the District Public Defender for the 31st Judicial District, serving Warren and Van Buren Counties. He was first elected to that position in 2014, and was reelected in 2022. John has served the District Public Defenders Conference as Middle Division Representative to the Executive Committee, Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and President.
John is a member and past President of the Warren County Bar Association, a past member of the Tennessee Bar Association Board of Governors and a current member of the Tennessee Bar Association/Tennessee Judicial Conference Bench-Bar Committee. Prior to his election as District Public Defender he was an attorney in private practice with the Law Offices of Galligan and Newman in McMinnville, Tennessee, for fourteen years where he was proud to represent clients in state and federal courts all across Tennessee. During his career in private practice John also served as County Attorney for Van Buren County and Municipal Judge for the City of Morrison. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee College of Law.
John is a lifelong resident of McMinnville, Tennessee, where he lives with his wife Becky, a school counselor for Warren County Middle School, and their daughters Amelia and Evelyn. In his free time he can usually be found coaching or cheering on his daughters.
