Mr. Shahan is a 6th Generation Southeast Tennessean. Upon Graduating Lee University, he worked in Law Enforcement at the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office achieving the Rank of Detective. After graduating law school, Mr. Shahan moved his career from Public Safety into the Private Practice of Law handling mainly bankruptcy work as well as general civil and criminal practice at the State level. In June 2012 Mr. Shahan accepted a position with the 10th Judicial District Public Defender’s Office as an Assistant Public Defender. Mr. Shahan continued in that position trying multiple jury trials and working in all courts of the District and the Appellate Level until August 2022 when Mr. Shahan was elected to be the District Public Defender for the Office that he had served for the last decade.
The 10th Judicial District is a four-county district serving approximately 238,000 people. The Public Defender’s Office for the 10th District has its main office in Cleveland, TN and a Satellite Office in Madisonville, TN. In those offices, 12 attorneys and support staff serve multiple courts and handle a variety of cases from Juvenile Court matters to Capital Murder Cases.
Mr. Shahan currently serves on the Boards for the 10th Judicial District Community Corrections Program, the Bradley County Misdemeanor Probation Program, the 10th District Human Trafficking and Opioid Addiction Task Force, the 10th Judicial District Veterans Court. Mr. Shahan is active in his community serving on the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of Cleveland, is a member of the Charleston Lodge #484 Free and Accepted Masons, is active in his Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and is an avid Golfer and Martial Artist.
Mr. Shahan is married to his wife Stacia and is the proud Father of his daughter Addison, who is quite the Golfer herself.
